A couple of years ago, Lance Armstrong came out with his “Livestrong” campaign. It’s a great concept, and many people can identify with it. Every morning on my way to work I see a bill board that simply and starkly states “Be Grateful”. What a powerful statement. Also something that most of us don’t do other than the usual please and thank you to be polite. Being grateful is so much more than just simple politeness or the big moments in life. Which is why I suggest “living grateful”. Our jobs can be a place of stress for all of us at any given moment in the day. But if we are able to step back and be grateful for something in that moment of stress, it is amazing how quickly that moment eases off. I have started keeping a blank journal in my bag for just that reason. I call it my book of gratitude When things are particularly rough, I take a moment to breathe, and list a few things that I am grateful for in and about my life. My vibrational frequency is raised, simply by the act of counting and listing blessings, enabling me to rise above the stress and move forward to a different angle to approach the problem from. To my delight, doing so has begun to create a habit of thinking grateful, even in non stressed moments, adding a richer fuller flavor to an already enjoyable experience, and stressed out moments have become fewer. Whether you believe in God, Spirit, a Higher Power, Angels…what ever.. honestly it doesn’t matter who you offer the thanks up to, as it is all sourced from the same place, just the simple act of offering up that thank you in the moment, whether it be that moment of joy, or a moment of stress, when you can shift your focus from &$#@(*&* to “thank you for the intelligence to get myself out of this ” can make a huge difference in the fabric of our lives. There will be a tangible difference, that people will notice, and petty things and petty people for that matter, ( I have noticed that people who in the past seemed to feed off of my energy, now tend to keep their distance. Guess the higher vibration is not to their liking!) will remain just that, and for the most part, below the scope of noticing. So, here is my challenge to myself and to anyone who may read this. I challenge you to “live grateful”, and give gratitude to everything and everyone in your life. Let it become a joyful habit that takes over and enriches your life, because when you live grateful, the doors remain open for more wonderful things to enter and be grateful for. Who doesn’t need more of that?

Today was a day of amazing friends, grace, beauty and miracles. Many people think it is a crazy thing to get up before daybreak on a weekend, however, for me this is a favorite activity. The world is still cool and quiet and there is time to think before the noise of the day. I was blessed with chance to spend time with a friend today, who is a recent addition to the small circle of people who get to see parts of the inner me. There were amazing scenes we drove down the highway along the Sangre De Christos just outside of Santa Fe NM, and headed into the Jemez Mountains as the sun was rising. Conversation about life and philosophy of living it was enlightening and educational as hearts were shared and souls opened to the idea of service to the world, without limiting self to being less than a full shining light. We stopped for breakfast in Los Alamos NM. Near the middle of town there is a busy, yet peaceful pond with resident ducks and geese…beautiful creatures. We brought a treat of day old bread back to the pond after enjoying a delicious breakfast of our own. The pair of bachelor ganders had moved away from the water and to the top of the hill. Having raised geese for a 4-H project as a kid, I knew enough to be wary as geese can be very territorial. I had no desire to get flogged! I started calling to the geese, inviting them to come back to the water’s edge and have breakfast with us. To my delight and surprise, they accepted my invitation, and came down the hill, and accepted bread from my fingers as if I were a regular visitor and favorite friend. I even sat down on the ground with them, and was allowed to stroke the soft feathers, as long as I was not reaching for the head or neck. They would take turns, often times with the white goose standing guard behind me while his friend ate. When the ganders had their fill of the bread, they moved away, and we moved on to the next portion of the road trip, taking in more beauty, and the opportunity to not only marvel at the beauty of God’s creation, but to feel Him and His love all around us in the majestic mountains. Music and ideas of ways to creatively serve Him through service to our fellow man continued to dominate the conversation, as did laughter. I am looking forward to many more mornings of this sort… as this makes my heart happy, and soul sing!
